Recently, I came  across an article that suggest that calcium may be good for in several ways. Not only is it good for strong healthy bones and teeth, it can also help you to live a longer live. It appears that some Swedish researchers have conducted a study of men ranging in ages from 49 up to 79 years old and followed their intake of calcium and found out that at least 25% of them were able to out live their counterparts who did not intake as much calcium.

Now when mentioning calcium intake, this is not in regards to calcium supplements, this is calcium intake directly from food. Also the study did not factor in the magnesium intake of these men because their diets seem to providing an adequate amount of magnesium. Mortality risks where concluded to be measured by lower numbers in cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels.

So what does this all mean? Well what it means is that diabetics need to be eating better meals.  Supplements should be a last resort, if you are getting the much needed recommended daily allowance of the vitamins and minerals as suggested, there is a chance that your overall health could improve.

And it easy to find foods for diabetics to eat most of them are at your local grocery store in the produce section, such as  greens, spinach, okra and even broccoli. Of course you have your milk based products, however diabetics need to be careful with drinking milk as it has the potential to raise blood sugar. The best thing to do when looking for the best foods for diabetics is to speak with a nutrition specialist that can put together a healthy diabetic meal plan for you or your loved ones.

Staying healthy should a goal that everyone is striving for and by including the right foods that provide the right nutrients for our bodies the is first step in the right direction.

Earlier we posted about how a person can drink tea and reduce their risk of diabetes by as much as 50 %. Well a new published report indicates that those that drink coffee can now share in the benefits, as coffee as also been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes.

The reasons behind these drinks being beneficial is due to magnesium and the other antioxidants that are found in these drinks, is what the study is suggesting. So as you can see, while you still need to adhere to medical advice, just by enjoying a good cup of joe or even a nice hot cup tea can be just as beneficial.

And since we are in the holiday season, I can’t think of a better way to enhance a nice diabetic meal plan than with a hot beverage, especially if you are in one of the many cold climates. And for many of the people who are already drinking either coffee or tea. There is simply nothing that they need to change, except the other foods that they are including in their diabetes diet plan.

The bottom line is that as long as you are following the orders of your medical professional and learning about the right type of foods and about keeping up an exercise routine. You are can be successful with controlling your diabetes or even lowering your risk of developing the disease at all.

A while ago I stumbled upon an article indicating that there had been another study conducted on the benefits of drinking tea in addition to a diabetes diet plan. This study that was done by Dutch researchers shows that a person that drinks at least three cups of tea a day, has the potential to slash their diabetes risk by as much as fifty percent.

The reason, according to researchers that tea is beneficial in reducing diabetes risk, is due the flavonoid antioxidants that tea provides. It is these flavonoid antioxidants that help to protect cells from damage.

What the study suggest is that the ingredients of magnesium and potassium are what contribute to the benefits that drinking tea provide. Now as usual you have to be careful when talk about taking additional magnesium and potassium so it is always best to be sure that your overall diabetic diet is complete and provides all the necessary vitamins and minerals that you body needs.

Remember that as part of any diabetic diet plan, it is always best to include natural and wholesome foods into your diet. And it looks like by drinking tea you are able to do just that. Add some thing delicious, tasty, and beneficial into your diabetic diet plan and to your best foods for diabetics.

It’s has been a while since I have last posted to this blog. So I thought that what I would do is go over the list of foods that have been shown to help people manage their blood glucose levels and make excellent foods for diabetics.

So here is the list:

*Blueberries
*Cherries
*Healthy Snacks - These would include your raw fruits and vegetables.
*A variety of Nuts.
*Fibrous Foods -Beans, Legumes, Whole Grains, Oats.
*Lean Meats - Chicken, Turkey, even the occasional lean red meat such as lamb, goat, buffalo are good substitutes for fatty red meats.

Additional ways to also take control and keep your blood sugar levels in check is to watch your carbohydrate intake. Get rid of the simple carbs (starchy foods - potatoes, white rice, white bread) and replace them with complex carbs (which are going to be the foods that were listed at the beginning of this post).

The difference between simple carbs and complex one are that simple carbs cause an immediate rise in blood sugars, while complex carbs do not.

So the best way to take control of your diabetes and win at the diabetic fight is to include foods for diabetics into your daily eating plan.
